1497 Methods to diagnose carbon monoxide exposure: A scoping review
نویسندگان
چکیده
Aims, Objectives and Background Carbon-monoxide (CO) is a colourless, odourless gas produced from incomplete combustion of carbon-containing fuels. Measurement CO levels to diagnose exposure difficult due its short half-life. The effects range mild symptoms, such as headache, neurotoxicity death. In this scoping review we aimed establish the existing methods used in clinical practice research determine map diagnostic cut-off values used. Method design We undertook measure thresholds each. EMBASE, Medline CINAHL databases were searched for published articles English 2002 onwards using keywords ‘carbon monoxide’, ‘poisoning’ ‘diagnosis’. Two reviewers independently screened abstracts inclusion, with third arbiter where there was lack agreement between reviewers. Full text papers then reviewed, data extracted on level, values, whether known or unknown source. Results Conclusion A total 85 identified meeting inclusion exclusion criteria. most common diagnosing measurement carboxyhaemoglobin (COHb) whole blood (50.5%) CO-oximeter spectrophotometrics (20%). Diagnostic poorly reported varied non-smokers smokers. Exhaled breath analysers (8.2%) ambient (11.7%) also documented. threshold 2–5% 10–15% Several are exposure. There variation make diagnosis which challenging clinicians makes comparison findings difficult.

Pnm-19: Residential Exposure to Carbon Monoxide and Spontaneous Abortion
Background: The relationship between air pollution exposure and adverse birth outcomes such as low birth weight and IUGR was studied. However, very few studies evaluated the effect of air pollution emissions on spontaneous abortion. We examined association between spontaneous abortion of the first trimester of pregnancy and ambient concentrations of carbon monoxide in Tehran. Materials and Meth...

BACKGROUND Ototoxic effects of carbon monoxide exposure: a review. AIM To analyze the literature on hearing and Carbon Monoxide (CO). METHODS To describe the physical properties, the absorption, distribution and metabolism of CO, as well as its origin, production, sources and the international standards for occupational exposure. Several studies about the effects of CO exposure to the audit...
متن کاملUnstable angina and exposure to carbon monoxide.
Inhalation of small amounts of carbon monoxide diminishes the pain threshold in patients with stable angina pectoris. The aim of this study was to identify and describe patients who had been exposed unknowingly to toxic inhalations of this gas and subsequently presented to hospital with a clinical picture of unstable angina. Blood carboxyhaemoglobin levels of 104 patients referred with unstable...
متن کاملA scoping review of rapid review methods
BACKGROUND Rapid reviews are a form of knowledge synthesis in which components of the systematic review process are simplified or omitted to produce information in a timely manner. Although numerous centers are conducting rapid reviews internationally, few studies have examined the methodological characteristics of rapid reviews. We aimed to examine articles, books, and reports that evaluated, ...
متن کاملCarbon Monoxide Intoxication – Review
CO, binds to the iron atoms in hemoglobin, with an affinity 200-250 times that of oxygen, and impairs oxygen carrying capacity of the blood. Hence, CO toxicity is a situation characterized by impairment of oxygen transportation and consumption. It has been reported that 30% of such cases are not diagnosed since the signs and symptoms in CO intoxication. Definitive diagnosis of CO intoxication i...
